Deleting Web Pages

You may, at some point need to delete a web page from your site.

This isn’t difficult to do but it’s important that you update your website to reflect the change.

Failing to update your website will result in 404 errors, possibly causing visitors to navigate away from your site.

How to delete a web page

• Firstly remove all the references to that page – including any links
• Update your websites sitemap 
• Update your sitemap with Google 
• Set up a 301 redirect to the new page or the page with the most relevant content

After deleting the web page

Check that your 301 re direct is working by typing in the old URL, making sure you get re directed to the correct page.

Contact anyone who was linking to the old page and ask them to update their website, making sure they link to your new page.
